Godabarisha Mohapatra (1898–1965) is celebrated as one of the most formidable satirists, poets, and storytellers of 20th-century Odia literature. Born in Kumarang near Banapur, Odisha, he emerged as a fearless literary reformer whose work bridged sharp socio-political critique with profound rural empathy. Educated at the iconic Satyabadi Bana Bidyalaya, Mohapatra transformed regional journalism by founding Niankhunta in 1938—a legendary satirical monthly that fearlessly exposed political corruption, greed, and social hypocrisy for over two decades. Beyond his razor-sharp editorial voice, his deeply humanistic storytelling produced enduring classics such as Magunira Shagada and Nila Mastarani, which vividly captured the dignity and struggles of Odisha's changing agrarian society. A prolific novelist, children's editor of Tuan Tuin, and poet, he was posthumously honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1966 for his poetry collection Banka O Sidha.
