Chintamani Mohanty (1867–1943), honorifically known as Kabi Sekhara, was a highly prolific Odia poet, novelist, and scholar of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Bhadrak district, Odisha, he was a key figure carrying forward the descriptive poetic tradition of Radhanath Ray while establishing his own distinctive voice in narrative poetry and early modern prose. Kabi Sekhara is best remembered for his extensive series of topographical kavyas named after Odisha's natural landmarks, rivers, and princely states—including Mahendra, Ghumusara, Salandi, Surangi, Bhubaneswar, and Utkala Kamala. Beyond his landmark poetry, he contributed significantly to early Odia fiction with novels such as Tankadhara, Yugala Murchhana, and Sanani, along with satirical and travel poetry like Ganjam Bhramana. Through his intense literary output and vivid celebrations of Odisha's geography and heritage, Chintamani Mohanty remains an influential pillar of modern Odia literature.
